The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:5-6)

The priest wondered aloud if many people of faith could
define Christian joy. That got me to thinking…and praying:
I sense the beneficent presence of the Creator of the
Universe (in my sometimes small, less than benevolent life.)
I flirt with contentment and hope - that my needs will be
met, that the glass is half-full, that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
I have an ethereal assurance - of life after death, of a
restored planet, of God’s company.
